Stanford Offers ASBPE Discount on
Four-Day Web Workshop
Conference theme: Who’s paying for content — and why?
Sept. 30, 2003 — The American
Society of Business Publication Editors has made arrangements with Stanford
Publishing Courses for a 10-percent discount on its upcoming workshop,
Publishing on the Web, Nov. 16-19, 2003, in Monterey, Calif.
The theme of this year's conference is “Who's
paying for content — and why?”
After years of conventional wisdom insisting that nobody
pays for online content, publishers are putting content "behind the
curtain" and readers are paying. In fact, a respected research firm
recently reported that spending on online content has already shot past
$700 million annually and is expected to increase to over $2.5 billion
in 2006.
The conference will explore this trend in depth —
and cover the critical issues that make or break any content-driven site.
Designed for the editor, Web producer, or business manager
responsible for magazine-related Web site, the workshop covers best practices
in running a Web site to support your publication.
Topics covered in the course include:
1. Cost-efficient content development and management.
2. Site design and navigation.
3. Visitor's agreements and privacy policies.
4. Best business models and revenue streams.
5. How to gather and use your site's Web traffic
statistics.
6. How to stay out of legal trouble.
7. Today's best advertising practices.
8. Promoting your site via e-newsletters and other
techniques.
The workshop also includes a web-site critique session
at which your site is analyzed and evaluated by a group of your peers
working with design specialists. You'll return to the office with pages
of notes on how to improve your offerings.
Instructors include Amy Bernstein of Business 2.0
and Ulla McGee of PC World. There are eight instructors in all.
The discounted tuition is $1,242 (the same as the early-bird registration,
now expired).
To receive the tuition reduction, identify yourself
as an ASBPE member when
you register.
The class schedule, list of instructors, accommodations,
costs, and other information is online. Go To: publishingcourses.stanford.edu/pow/.
“If you're taking a fresh look at your
Web content or launching an online
publication, you may find the workshop helpful,” notes ASBPE president
Robert Freedman. “I encourage you to visit the Stanford site to
see if the program meets your needs.”
