First the Oscars and Emmys. Now, meet the “Azbees”

Our new awards nickname, just in time for the Jan. 20, 2006 entry deadline.

Editors love the ASBPE Awards of Excellence. They submitted a record 2,610 entries last year, after all. But one concern has been what to call the awards without getting all tongue-twisted?

To ease the problem and improve the branding of our popular 27-year-old awards, we’ve adopted a nickname: The Azbees. “Some editors have pronounced the acronym for our organization that way for years. Others read off every letter, A-S-B-P-E. This year, we wanted to make it more familiar and end all the confusion,” said new national president Roy Harris. “Azbees: it sounds right, doesn’t it?”

Look for our contest entry brochure to be mailed in mid-October.

Next year in Chicago

Also, note on your calendar that our annual National Editorial Conference and Awards of Excellence banquet will be held next year in Chicago, July 20–21.
