ASBPE Magazine of the Year Finalists Announced

The 20 business-to-business publications honored will now compete for two
top awards on July 20.

Twenty magazines have been selected as the nation’s best business-to-business publications as part of the American Society of Business Publications’ (ASBPE) 2005-6 competition.

Ten magazines in the under-80,000 circulation division, and ten more in the 80,000-and-over division, now become finalists for prestigious ASBPE Magazine of the Year honors. Winners will be announced the evening of July 20 at the 28th annual Azbee Awards of Excellence banquet in Chicago at the Embassy Suites Hotel Downtown Lakefront. The banquet takes place during ASBPE’s National Editorial Conference, July 20-21.

In the under 80,000 circulation division, the finalists are:

  • American Lawyer
  • Chain Leader
  • CIO Decisions
  • CIO Insight
  • CSO
  • HealthLeaders
  • Hospitals & Health Networks
  • Information Security
  • Meetings & Conventions
  • Residential Architect

In the 80,000 and over division, the finalists   are:

  • Builder
  • BusinessWeek SmallBiz
  • CIO
  • CFO
  • Computerworld
  • Government Computer News
  • HR Magazine
  • IndustryWeek
  • Remodeling
  • Restaurants & Institutions

Magazine of the Year Criteria

In the competition, six judges from the professional magazine-editing world evaluated three consecutive issues of each of the more than 100 publications that entered for 2005-6. Judges used the following criteria:

  • Writing, reporting, and editing.
  • Usefulness to the reader.
  • Editorial organization.
  • Interaction with readers.
  • Layout and design.

Last year's Magazine of the Year winners were Restaurants & Institutions in the large-publication category, and CMO in the small category.

Other Awards

In the Azbee Awards competition’s other 39 categories, national winners of gold, silver, or bronze awards will also be announced at the Chicago banquet. Also named at that time will be the winner of Stephen Barr Award for special excellence in feature writing. ASBPE also gives awards in its four regions.

Stan Modic, senior editorial advisor and columnist for Nelson Publishing,
will also be honored as the 2006 ASBPE Lifetime Achievement Award winner.
