Folio: magazine
cites ASBPE ethics guidelines

| Folio: cited ASBPE for helping editors navigate ethics,
especially as applied to the Web. |
Folio: has named ASBPE’s
Guide to Preferred Editorial Practices among the industry's
Top 40 developments in 2006.
The
2007 Folio: 40 — which the
magazine-industry publication
calls "the oldest, most
comprehensive and most
distinguished compilation of
its kind" — included ASBPE's
new ethics guidelines as one
of last year's top
developments. “Although many have tried,” the
magazine notes, “few
organizations have tackled the subject of online ethics as
thoroughly as the American Society of Business Publication
Editors did in the May 2006 release of its updated ethics
guide.”
Folio: said it examined the
entire magazine industry and
related markets "for
individuals from the
executive suite on down who
best represent an
increasingly multifaceted
media landscape." Organizations
and events are considered in addition
to individuals.
ASPBE president Roy Harris
was quoted in the article as
saying that the ethics code
was a six-month effort by a
team of editors, coming after
a survey of members about
what problems needed to be
addressed. Folio: and Harris
pointed to the key role
editors play ethically,
working both with the
problems faced by writers and
those faced by publishers.
