Award Criteria
In the Magazine of the Year competition,
judges from the professional magazine-editing
world evaluated three consecutive issues
of each entrant, studying their writing,
reporting, and editing; their usefulness
to and interactivity with readers; editorial
organization; and layout and design. The
judges also review performance in the
overall Azbee Awards competition.
For Web Site Publication of the Year,
judges looked at areas such as writing
and reporting, value and usefulness to
readers, ease of navigation and quick
access to information, site architecture,
and overall design.
The Multi-Platform awards were evaluated
based on how well print and digital media are used separately
and in conjunction with one another. Judges looked at reporting,
writing, design, usability, readability,
organization,
value to readers, interactivity, information architecture,
and effective use of technology.
Other Major Awards
In addition to the July 24 Azbee Awards
presentation, ASBPE will also name this
year’s winner of the Stephen
Barr Award for special excellence in feature
writing, and will honor its 2008 Lifetime
Achievement Award winner.
Speakers on the first day of the Conference
include Paul Conley, a well-known B2B
blogger and Abe Peck, a veteran Northwestern
University journalism professor who has
worked for newspapers and Rolling
Stone.
The Azbee Awards banquet features awards
in 55 categories of magazine, online, newsletter, and multi-platform
excellence. Azbee Awards are also given in ASBPE’s
four regions.
