ASBPE Names 2010 Magazine of the Year Winners

Two computer titles win top awards.

Computerworld and SC Magazine took top honors as the 2010 winners of the annual Magazine of the Year competition. The contest is part of the annual Azbee Awards of Excellence sponsored by the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE).

A panel of judges selects 10 finalists in categories for publications with revenues of $2 million or more, and of less than $2 million, and then chooses a winner in each division. Judges from the professional B2B magazine-editing world evaluated three consecutive issues from each entrant, examining their writing, reporting, and editing; their usefulness to and interactivity with readers; editorial organization; and layout and design.

Computerworld
beat out nine other finalists to win the prestigious award. Judges selected the magazine as the winner in the over $2 million category due to its nice design, great use of illustrations, organization and clean look. One judge said the magazine was “amazing for a weekly publication,” and another said “it tackles timely issues and it’s well done.”

SC Magazine won in the under $2 million category for its “clean design” and “well organized layout.” One of the judges said, “you know where you are in the publication,” while another complimented the magazine for its quick, easy pullout data and number of entry points for the reader. The publication also won for its ability to cover relevant topics and as one judge put it, “to get the job done.”

ASBPE also congratulates the other top-performing magazines that were the finalists in the 2010 Magazine of the Year competition.
