Communications Manager — Institute of Management Accountants – IMA

IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants), one of the world’s largest and most respected professional associations focused exclusively on advancing the management accounting profession, is looking for a Communications Manager to join its Brand team. This highly competitive position is located in IMA’s global headquarters in Montvale, N.J.

Position Summary:

In this role, you’ll work with IMA’s Research and Policy team, IMA’s graphic designers, proofreaders, and Brand colleagues to produce IMA’s thought leadership materials. These informative pieces include research reports, whitepapers, C-suite reports, and e-books. You’ll help manage the production process from manuscript to published piece, then recommend the best tactics for marketing and public relations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide internal client management and counsel to prioritize and support IMA’s thought leadership initiatives, in alignment with IMA’s organizational calendar and market trends
  • Review and evaluate plans for IMA’s thought leadership for relevance among IMA’s key audiences and market needs
  • Manage the publishing production process—from draft to finished product—for reports created by IMA’s Research and Policy team and contributing authors
  • Liaise with IMA Brand staff, freelance designers, and PR agency of record to manage production and promotion of outputs
  • Plan effective communications campaigns to promote IMA’s thought leadership. Recommend an appropriate mix of internal and external channels to effectively meet objectives. Leverage IMA member communications, IMA publications, e-mail marketing, PR, social media, and other appropriate outlets
  • Assist in the writing and editing of support communications and website, as needs warrant
  • Engage IMA staff and volunteer leaders in the delivery of IMA’s thought leadership, strategic goals, and overall communications strategy
  • Attain a detailed knowledge of IMA’s thought leadership initiatives and the issues affecting the management accounting profession. Keep current on industry trends in order to make sound recommendations to IMA’s internal clients

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and other Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related area of study
  • Three to five years of experience in a thought leadership communications, public relations, communications agency or publishing position
  • Experience in managing the production of published materials
  • Editorial experience working with trade subject matter related to accounting, finance and business
    issues
  • Strong strategic planning, project management, and analytical skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects across various departments
  • Ability to inform, influence, and inspire team members and senior management through effective campaigns and measured results
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
