Five editors under 30 returned to their offices with a renewed enthusiasm for their work after attending ASBPE’s National Editorial Conference on their Young Leaders Scholarships awarded by the Society. Winners received complimentary registration, hotel, and meals at the conference.

“Each year the number of applicants increases for our Scholarships,” said Frances Richards, this year’s scholarship committee chairperson. “We had the strongest set of applications ever submitted, which is good news for the business press. There’s a bunch of good young blood out there!”

Scholarship winner Taylor Rau, editor of Nightclub & Bar, summed it up well. Attending the conference “opened my eyes to many new possibilities within my own publication and organization, not to mention reaffirmed how and why the professionals in our Society are so successful. From management to design and far beyond, I left Cleveland with renewed enthusiasm, vigor — and vision.”

“It’s easy to get consumed in the industry you cover,” said winner Kelly Quigley, associate editor of Realtor Magazine Online.

“The conference was a good way to step back and focus on my career as an editor and a journalist. The sessions were great, but I really learned the most from talking to other editors during the breaks and sharing tips on how we can do our jobs better.”
