Job Description:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working Features Editor to work as a valued member of our editorial staff. This position requires a motivated editor with excellent writing, editing, and management skills. The editor will be responsible for working with the editor-in-chief, receiving assignment details, recruiting/managing a body of freelance correspondents, and submitting final copy by deadline.
This position is located in our Production Office in the Loop. The Features Editor will work alongside our small design and editorial staff in a casual environment. This position will also work closely with our sales and business development office located a few blocks away.
Most importantly, the Features Editor must continually improve our relationship with our readers and advertisers — providing effective and useful editorial that exceeds our clients’ expectations. We’re looking for innovators!
Skills We’re Looking For:
- Bachelors degree in Publishing, Communications, English, Technical Writing, or a related field;
- At least 2 years of professional experience as an editor, features editor, managing editor or equivalent;
- Strong knowledge of business-to-business publications;
- Strong editing skills and knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style;
- Attention to detail, flexibility, and excellent communication and multitasking skills;
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people;
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Compensation:
$30,000 - $35,000 DOE. This position offers health/dental benefits and over three weeks of paid vacation time.

This position reports to the Director of Communications.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Develop, research, collect, edit and write departments sections of units magazine and at least one industry-related feature article covering 1,000 to 2,000 words for publication in each monthly issue through own initiative, and using all available sources.
- Identify, write and edit industry-related fresh content for www.naahq.org site and NAA’s social media devices (blogs, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) on a weekly basis.

EDITORIAL:
- Work with Director of Communications to plan and evaluate the content, printing, distribution, circulation and marketing of UNITS magazine, with primary focus on assigning, editing and writing articles.
- Assist with managing duties and responsibilities of the Manager of Production and Design and Staff Writer.
- Serve as head of Communications Department in Director of Communications’ absence.
- Manage planning, content and production of special publication projects, including UNITS Today , Connect with NAA, NAA Annual Report, marketing materials and other projects.
