Burt Helm of Inc. Magazine Wins Stephen Barr Award

The annual ASBPE Foundation Stephen Barr Award for outstanding feature writing went to Burt Helm of Inc. magazine for his November 2012 story, “After the Squeeze,” which examined the causes and effects of a bank-lending drought that has disproportionately hit the small-business people who are the publication’s main audience.

In this clip from the awards ceremony, Roy Harris, Jr., President of the ASBPE Foundation, presents Burt with his award and reads words of praise from his editor.

Roy Harris: [His editor] said: “Burt is one of the most gifted journalists in the field right now. His compassion for entrepreneurs is surpassed only by his integrity and his fierce devotion to getting to the truth.”

Nice words to come from your editor. So, I’d like to congratulate Burt on winning this award, the annual Stephen Barr Award, and the thing I may not have mentioned is that it’s also an award that is endowed with a cash prize, and, congratulations to you, you’ll now be able to afford the cab back to O’Hare.
