SUMMARY OF PURPOSE

The Assistant Editor serves a key role in the strategic execution of the online and print initiatives for Fraud Magazine (www.Fraud-Magazine.com), a four-color, bimonthly association magazine with a circulation of nearly 70,000. This highly motivated, organized individual will manage and help expand the online presence of the publication and provide additional value to the association members who receive the magazine. This position will work directly with the Editor of Fraud Magazine and will be responsible for conducting research, editing and writing various columns/articles, working with authors and editorial reviewers, and proofing copy. The Assistant Editor will also assist with issue planning and the magazine production process in addition to serving as the liaison with marketing and other ACFE department staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Research and write articles and/or columns for use in print or online versions of Fraud Magazine
  • Maintain content on CMS and coordinate visual updates for Fraud Magazine website and online-only content, such as videos and articles
  • Manage editorial process and produce Fraud Magazine e-newsletter
  • Edit and proof copy and perform research for Fraud Magazine print edition as assigned by Editor
  • Coordinate and maintain Fraud Magazine production schedule and work with all ACFE staff and outside contractors involved to streamline the process
  • Identify new subject matter experts and work directly with authors and editorial reviewers to assist in the management of outside contributors
  • Assist with coordination and execution of materials and logistics for print and online advertisers
  • Write, edit and proof web and print marketing copy and provide writing support when required
  • Research and write member profiles for Fraud Magazine and marketing copy
  • Write extensive online coverage and perform duties as assigned for the ACFE Global Fraud Conference
  • Conduct phone and video interviews with members and other subject matter experts for usage in podcasts, blogs, member profiles and related media
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field required
  • 2-5 years of writing/editorial experience required; proven success in working with daily, weekly or monthly publications a plus
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate on multiple levels
  • Effective usage of English grammar, syntax and punctuation; thorough understanding of style
  • Proven skills in organizing work, attending to detail, giving direction, managing time effectively, and handling multiple tasks in a timely manner
  • Working knowledge of web editing and authoring tools, content management systems (CMS) and related applications such as: DreamWeaver, Flash and Ektron preferred
  • Skilled in collaborating with internal and external resources
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
